It’s a new school year in our community. Thousands of Aurora’s girls and boys are taking their next steps towards a successful future.
The promise of new teachers, new friends, and new learning opportunities define new opportunities, as well as new challenges facing kids during the back-to-school season.
For many kids living in the Aurora Area, the reality is, that hunger finds its way on to this list of back-to-school challenges too.Fall 2018 Fundraising Event Flyer - Print & Share!
There are many reasons, and complex circumstances, behind every case of child hunger in the Aurora Area. Schedules can get complicated, many parents work long shifts and hold 2 or 3 jobs to make ends meet.
The bottom line is that no child should ever go without nourishing food when there is plenty of healthy food available for everyone. Marie’s Food Rescue Volunteers know this very well, as many hours are spent sorting nutritious donations from over 30 local grocers.
Marie’s East & West Food Pantry Volunteers, and Marie’s Event & Fundraising Volunteers work very hard, day in and day out to bring access to nutritious food to everyone in our community. With support from community leaders like YOU, Aurora can rest assured that we are able to provide kids with the nutritious food they need to grow and succeed, both during the school day and beyond.
As you read this newsletter, know that you can make a difference in the lives of Aurora’s children, whether your support comes in the form of food, funds, or time ~ every time, every dollar, every hour, matters.
This is why Marie Wilkinson Food Pantry has launched the new Food 4 Students program. It started last fall, with Student Food Day at East Aurora High School.East High Food Day Volunteer Sign Up
Today, both East and West Aurora School District leaders have been provided access to Emergency Food Resources to send home with students in crisis.
By providing an action of compassion to a child in the form of groceries to take home for several family meals, Aurora’s children and their families will learn that Aurora Cares, and Aurora Shares! There is more than enough nutritious food to keep Aurora’s families healthy and strong, and especially to nourish Aurora’s children during times of need.
What does this mean? Moms and dads don’t have to live with the fear and worry that comes from being unable to afford groceries for their kids. When volunteers are diligent in their daily food rescue work, and when volunteers come to Marie’s East & West Pantries to organize and sort the food, day after day, and week after week – here’s the truth that every Marie Wilkinson Food Pantry Volunteer.
There is more than enough food, for everyone to share.
As always, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for choosing to support Aurora’s precious families, and for helping provide lasting solutions to hunger in our community.
Every donation you make brings us one step closer to filling every empty plate in Aurora.
Warmly and with gratitude,
Diane Renner, Director
